District Heating and Cooling
In a district heating system, a central plant produces hot water and steam (or chilled water if the system delivers cooling), and delivers it to a group of buildings or facilities via an underground pipeline network.
An alternative to renewable energy sources can be the production of heat using biomass, geothermal power, household waste incineration and waste heat from industrial facilities.
Dalkia - Veolia Energy manages 682 district heating or cooling systems worldwide, particularly in France, the UK, Italy, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States. In Sweden we manage district heating systems primarily in Central Sweden.
